BWMB 1992.jpgIn 1992 Diane Abbott was re-elected to parliament as the member for Hackney North and Stoke Newington.
During her first term in parliament, she strove to build a strong relationship with the local business community in Hackney, particularly the ethnic minority business network. She held many informal consultations with local entrepreneurs in this network and engaged with numerous business advice services on their behalf.

It was out of these consultations that the idea of an initiative specifically aimed at helping black and minority business women took form.
